India throws out ban on gay sex

India’s Supreme Court unanimously overturned a colonial-era ban on gay sex.

The decision sparts celebrations in the country, where gay sex had been punishable by up to 10 years in prison.

“Any consensual sexual relationship between two consenting adults - homosexuals, heterosexuals or lesbians - cannot be said to be unconstitutional,” India Chief Justice Dipak Misra said as he read out the judgment.
