India yesterday banned 59 Chinese apps, including TikTok.
India’s Ministry of Information Technology cited activities by the apps that are "prejudicial to sovereignty and integrity of India, defense of India, security of state and public order." Ministry officials said they've received reports that Chinese apps are sending user data "in an unauthorized manner" to servers outside India.
Quartz reports the ban could be brought on by tension between the two countries. Since early May, thousands of Chinese and Indian troops have been engaged in a standoff in India’s northern Ladakh region.
