Independence attorney John C. Carnes, 69, has pleaded guilty to federal tax evasion.
Carnes admitted he “willfully attempted to evade paying his personal income taxes” from 2012 to 2018. Carnes reportedly failed to pay over $800,000 in taxes.
Carnes is a former member of the Jackson County Legislature and Independence City Council.
