The company’s first Mexican location opened June 14.
The franchisee, Gonzalo Barrutieta, is under contract to build 19 other Incredible Pizza locations, likely in Mexico and Central America.
Barrutieta’s family has developed numerous other stores in Mexico and Central America, including Office Depot, Radio Shack and Mexican grocery chain Gigante Supermarkets.
Barrutieta said he first became interested in franchising for the company when he took his wife and five children to the Houston location.
“Mexico is a country where families get together to celebrate anything and everything,” Barrutieta said in Incredible Pizza Co.’s newsletter. “Providing a place to do it in a smoke-free and alcohol-free environment is something that will be cherished by many Mexican families.”
Mexico is the first international foray for Incredible Pizza. The company is also developing stores for the China market. Incredible Pizza officials told SBJ in May that the first of at least 10 stores in China could be open as early as 2009.
The company currently has about 80 franchises sold in addition to its 14 operating locations.
