In-flight Internet connections pick up speed

Several airlines are working to boost in-flight Wi-Fi speeds by up to six times the current best option, according to Fortune Magazine.

JetBlue Airways is partnering with ViaSat inc. to provide speeds of up to 12 megabits per second to each flier. American Airlines and Virgin America Inc. are partnering with Gogo Inc. to enable up to 60 megabits per second.

American Airlines was the first to implement Gogo’s Wi-Fi on commercial flights. New Airbus 319 aircraft are slated to be equipped with Gogo’s ground-based Wi-Fi, as well as all subsequent Airbus A320s and Boeing 737s.
