Illinois firm acquiring Mathews & Associates

Posted online
Springfield, Ill.-based Crawford, Murphy & Tilly Inc. is in the process of acquiring Springfield-based engineering firm Mathews & Associates Inc.

The acquisition is scheduled to close Jan. 1 for an undisclosed amount, said Fred Mathews, president of Mathews & Associates, 1631 W. Elfindale St.

On Jan. 1, Mathews & Associates will become the 10th office of CMT, which also has a St. Louis office. Mathews & Associates' 14 employees will stay on as CMT employees, and Mathews and Steve Prange, who moved to MAI from CMT's Aurora, Ill., office, will serve as office managers.

Mathews said the merger will give his employees opportunities to work on a variety of projects, while giving MAI customers access to CMT services from the Springfield office.

"We've been in business for 26 years. My wife (Kay) and I started the business out of the basement of our home," Mathews said. "We've progressed to the point where we feel like we need a logical transition for our employees and our customers."

CMT focuses on projects in the areas of water, wastewater, storm-water, aviation, highway, bridge and land development. Its offices span four states.[[In-content Ad]]
