Ikon Technology Services, a division of Ikon Office Solutions which acquired Springfield's Valcom Computer Center in April, has announced a new office site in Topeka, Kan.
The new facility is that city's first authorized technical training and network support services center for both Microsoft and Novell, according to a news release from Ikon.
The new location includes a computer classroom using authorized courseware from Novell, Microsoft and Lotus. Also, Ikon offers a Sylvan Prometric Testing Center that will provide certification testing for the courses.
"Our new location will provide educational opportunities for people interested in becoming certified engineers in some of the most prevalent products in business computing," said Kevin Grawe, president of Ikon Technology Services-Kansas City, in the release.
"There are a significant number of people who can't commute to our Overland Park offices for coursework, and this will provide them access to the skills they need to enter a hot job market," he added.
In addition to technical training, Ikon will provide a full range of network integration services for Topeka businesses.
Beyond network installation and support, Ikon Technology Services specializes in year 2000 issues, thin-client computing, application development and technical help-desk services.
The Topeka location marks continual regional growth of Ikon Technology Services-Kansas City. Earlier this year, Ikon acquired a network integration and technology education company in Wichita, Kan., in addition to the
locally based
Valcom Computer Center.
"We view our business on a regional basis," Grawe said in the release.
"We are one of the premier technology companies in the four-state region, and we want to reach as many people in the area as possible."
Ikon's Technology Services group began with the acquisition of the Kansas City office, formerly USConnect, in 1996, and now has more than 70 offices in the United States, Canada and Great Britain.
Ikon is traded on the New York Stock Exchange under the symbol IKN, and can be contacted on the web at www.IKONKC.com.
The local office of Ikon Technology Services is headed by Tom Sanders.
