Ikea slated to build second Dallas-area store

Posted online
Swedish furniture retailer Ikea submitted plans yesterday to the city of Grand Prairie, Texas, to build its second store in the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex. Grand Prairie is immediately west of the city of Dallas.

The 293,000-square-foot store will be built on 32 acres, and Ikea plans to ask for economic development funds only for road, utility and other infrastructure work, The Dallas Morning News reports.

The store, slated to open in the fall of 2017, is expected to employ 300 people, and the construction phase would require 500 workers. Ikea opened its other Dallas-area store in Frisco in 2005. The Grand Prairie location would be Ikea’s fourth in Texas.
