The land of blue and yellow is going green.
Ikea, the Swedish megaretailer known for its blue and yellow color scheme and compact affordable furniture, is installing the state’s largest rooftop solar array on its St. Louis store, currently under construction.
The St. Louis Business Journal reports the project will comprise 1.28 megawatts and more than 4,000 solar panels that will produce approximately 1.78 million kWh of electricity annually for the store, the equivalent to reducing 1,227 tons of carbon dioxide.
The $50 million, 380,000-square-foot St. Louis store is about half complete and slated to be done this fall.
Ikea has allocated $1.8 billion to invest in renewable energy through 2015.
