IKEA plans substantial geothermal project for KC location

IKEA plans to construct the largest geothermal heating and cooling system in Kansas or Missouri at its Merriam, Kan., store, the Swedish furniture retailer announced Tuesday.

The company already has started the project, which utilizes a ground source heat-pump system, and expects to complete it by winter, according to the Kansas City Business Journal.

The project would serve as the main heating and cooling system for the 359,000-square-foot store.
