Billionaire Carl Icahn is attempting to shake up McDonald's board over the welfare of pigs used in its food chain.
Icahn, who owns 200 McDonald's shares, pointed to claims about pregnant sows being kept in small crates.
McDonald's in 2012 pledged to stop ordering pork from suppliers putting pregnant pigs in crates. By the end of this year, the company expects up to 90% of its pork to come from suppliers that have moved to group housing systems.
