Hy-Vee's Iowa triathlon discontinued

West Des Moines, Iowa-based Hy-Vee Inc. has discontinued its triathlon in its home state, one of the world’s richest such events.

The grocery chain has held the triathlon in the greater Des Moines area since 2007. The total purse reached as high as $1.1 million before it shrunk in 2013 to $500,000, according to The Associated Press.

The company says it is examining new avenues for health and wellness promotion.
