Millions of dollars in attorney fees sought by Husch Blackwell LLP for its work in the Brooke Corp. bankruptcy case are now under objection by a federal trustee.
Since the bankruptcy was filed in 2008, Husch has charged more than $1.16 million for its work, according to the business journals in Kansas City and St. Louis, and the U.S. Trustee involved in the case is proposing that payment on the law firm’s latest request for about $1.185 million in fees and expenses be halted.
“The UST is concerned about how much money will eventually go to creditors, versus how much money will be paid to Husch when these cases are concluded,” the trustee wrote in an objection to Husch’s recent reimbursement application.
So far, 72 percent of the money recovered in the bankruptcy has gone to Husch for fees and expenses.
