Kansas City-based Husch Blackwell LLP announced yesterday the launch of its unmanned aircraft systems group, which will be led, in part, by a partner at the firm's Springfield office.
The practice focuses on drone technology, assisting clients with legal, privacy and regulatory issues of the unmanned aircraft systems and unmanned aerial vehicles, according to a news release.
Along with a team of former fighter pilots, component and software developers and data analysts, Husch Blackwell's new practice will be co-led by attorney David Agee of the Springfield office.
“The technical applications of the UAS/UAV industry continue to outpace impending rule-making regarding certification and operations requirements,” Agee said in the release. “Because of this uncertain environment, operators need trusted counsel to navigate the complicated legal terrain."
The new Husch Blackwell practice extends to commercial clients, who use drones for data collection, mapping and surveillance, as well as industries such as energy, agriculture, film and real estate.
Husch Blackwell operates in 15 U.S. cities and London. Locally, six of its partners
left the firm this month to start a Springfield office for another Kansas City firm, Spencer Fane Britt & Browne LLP.
