Husch Blackwell attorneys start branch for Kansas firm

Posted online
Three attorneys from the Springfield Husch Blackwell LLP office have broken off to form the Springfield branch of Overland Park, Kan.-based Sanders Warren & Russell LLP.

Randy Scheer, former partner with Husch Blackwell; Jacob Sappington, former partner with Husch Blackwell; and Kenneth Sprenger, a former associate in the litigation department of Husch Blackwell, left the firm early last month to launch the Springfield office of Sanders Warren & Russell on April 16.

"It was an amicable split," Scheer said, noting the three resigned from Husch Blackwell. Scheer now serves as managing partner for the Springfield office of Sanders Warren & Russell, which operates in Corporate Centre on East Sunshine Street.

Scheer said Sappington is serving as of counsel for the Springfield office, while Sprenger joined as a litigation associate.

With six employees, the local office focuses on products and toxic tort liability, trucking and transportation liability, medical and professional liability, insurance coverage and defense, construction defects and business litigation, Scheer said.

For Scheer, the decision marks a move to familiar territory.

"I moved down here to help open the Blackwell Sanders office, which is now Husch Blackwell, in Hammons Tower," Scheer said. "I had an opportunity to rejoin some of my old partners, who were formerly with the Blackwell Sanders firm. It seemed like a great opportunity and a good fit."
