Humanitarian of the Year

Posted online

John Harp was named 1998 Humanitarian of the Year Dec. 2. Harp, a salesman for Acme Brick and for 15 years chairman of the HBA Home Show, was presented the award by the Community Foundation of the Ozarks. Harp and his wife Janet have been parents to about 70 foster children in the last nine years. The Harps had two daughters when they began caring for foster children and have subsequently adopted two children. Harp said in his acceptance speech that the Child Advocacy Center, Developmental Center of the Ozarks, Heartland Ecumenical Camino and the annual foster children's Christmas party would benefit from the $3,000 cash grant that accompanies the award. The award and its cash grant are funded by the Humanitarian of the Year Award Fund, established by Jewell Thompson Schweitzer.
