Huge event skates into KC in 2017

Get ready for sequence and drama as the 2017 Prudential U.S. Figure Skating Championships skate into the City of Fountains.

The Kansas City Business Journal reports the city will host host the championships Jan. 14-27, 2017, for men's, women's, pairs and ice dancing events. The juvenile, intermediate and novice events will take place at Silverstein Eye Centers Arena in Independence.

More than 8,000 hotels rooms are expected to be booked — and that’s just for the teams. Roughly 100,000 spectators are expected to attend, creating an $18 million economic impact on the region.

KC last hosted the event in 1985.
