William Wade Matchneer III earlier this month was named the first administrator of the Department of Housing and Urban Development's Manufactured Housing Program.
According to a HUD announcement, Matchneer's position was established by the Manufactured Housing Improvement Act of 2000.
As administrator of the Manufactured Housing Program, Matchneer is responsible for advising the Federal Housing Commissioner on the development and evaluation of the department's manufactured housing policy, as well as program administration.
He came to HUD from the Commit-tee on Government Reform, Subcommit-tee on Criminal Justice, Drug Policy and Human Resources, where he served as staff counsel to Congressman Mark Souder.
HUD is the nation's housing agency committed to increasing homeownership, especially among minorities, creating affordable housing opportunities for low-income Americans, supporting the homeless, elderly, people with disabilities and people living with AIDS. The department also promotes economic and community development as well as enforces the nation's fair housing laws.
