H&R Block donates $10K to private college fund

H&R Block Foundation, the philanthropic arm of Kansas City-based H&R Block Inc., has donated $10,000 to the Missouri Colleges Fund, which includes three area member schools.

The Missouri Colleges Fund, a nonprofit organization based in Jefferson City, works as a liaison and director of funding for 16 independent Missouri universities, including Drury, Evangel and Southwest Baptist universites, according to a news release.

The donation will help fund need-based scholarships to students studying science and math at MCF's member schools.

“The Missouri Colleges Fund is very grateful for this gift from the H&R Block Foundation,” MCF President Mike Backer said in the release. "H&R Block recognizes the importance of education and the significant impact that an educated work force has on Missouri’s economy.”

Other MCF member schools are:
  • Avila University, Kansas City;
  • Central Methodist University, Fayette;
  • Columbia College, Columbia;  
  • Culver-Stockton College, Canton;
  • Fontbonne University, St. Louis;
  • Hannibal LaGrange University, Hannibal;
  • Maryville University, St. Louis;
  • Missouri Baptist University, St. Louis;
  • Park University, Parkville;
  • Rockhurst University, Kansas City;
  • Westminster College, Fulton;
  • William Jewell College, Liberty; and
  • William Woods University, Fulton.
