How Chipotle got religion on sustainable pork

If you're mean to animals, Chipotle will kick you out of its restaurants.
 
The restaurant chain is well known for its sustainable-living business model and is willing to stand by its practices even if that means limiting customers' menu options. On Wednesday, it removed pork from its menu at about one-third of its stores, including in Springfield, when it learned a supplier had violated Chipotle's animal-welfare policies, reports Bloomberg Businessweek.
 
Chipotle has been committed to sustainability since 1999, when it switched to humanely raised pork after its founder visited a free-range farm. The switch caused carnitas sales to more than double, the report states, and led to the chain touting its stance against large-scale farming in its advertising campaigns.
