House where Hailey Owens was found to be demolished

Posted online
In his regular Pokin Around column, Steve Pokin of the Springfield News-Leader discovered the house where Hailey Owens' body was found in early 2014 will be demolished and turned into a community garden.

Craig Wood, 47, owned the house at the time of the 10-year-old girl's death in February 2014. Police believe Owens was killed in the house. Wood, who's charged with murder, is awaiting trial.

Rick Richardson of Re/Max House of Brokers told Pokin he was long unable to sell the house, which was tainted by its link to the alleged homicide.

On Dec. 15, the house sold to nonprofit Springfield Community Gardens. The organization plans to plant a garden at the location - the 1500 block of East Stanford Street.
