The house passed the emergency supplemental bill for Utilicare by a vote of 150-0. The Senate is expected to vote on the bill next week.
“I am pleased the House has responded quickly and favorably to my request to provide this assistance to our fellow Missourians in need,” Gov. Matt Blunt said in a news release. “I encourage the Senate to quickly follow suit.”
Blunt visited Springfield in December to announce his support for the bill that would assist Missourians in paying increased heating costs.
Blunt said Utilicare has never been adequately funded since it was created in 1979, and it has received no funding since 2001. The bill calls for the maximum amount allowed.
