House Democrats to vote to undo Trump’s national emergency

Posted online

The House is expected to vote today to undo President Donald Trump's national emergency declaration for border wall funding.

"I ask all members of Congress — Democrat and Republican — to support this joint resolution to terminate President Trump’s unconstitutional national emergency declaration to build his border wall. It sets a dangerous precedent and steals congressional authority," said Rep. Joaquin Castro, D-Texas, the bill's sponsor.

Quartz reports the measure would face a tough battle in the Senate, where Democrats need three Republican votes to overturn the national emergency.

Trump's declaration also faces a lawsuit from 16 state attorneys general.
