House Democrats this week proposed legislation that would send monthly coronavirus relief payments of $2,000 to Americans.
Democratic Reps. Tim Ryan, of Ohio, and Ro Khanna, of California, introduced the bill. They said it's necessary to keep up with a growing number of layoffs, furloughs and pay cuts due to the pandemic.
"As millions of Americans file for unemployment week over week, we have to work quickly to patch the dam — and that means putting cash in the hands of hard-working families,” Ryan said in a statement.
