Hough to run for Senate seat against Burlison

Posted online
Greene County Commissioner Lincoln Hough plans to run for the state Senate seat currently held by Jay Wasson.

Hough will face former colleague Eric Burlison in the Aug. 7, 2018, primaries, in hopes of winning the District 20 seat. Both Hough and Burlison are former Republican members of the Missouri House of Representatives. Burlison disclosed to the Missouri Ethics Commission his plan to run for District 20 earlier this month. Republican Sen. Wasson was elected in 2010 and will term out next year.

The District 20 seat covers Greene and Christian counties.

Hough currently has $160,000 on hand in his campaign account and plans to report $200,000 to the MEC on July 15, according to the release. Burlison reported $264,120 in cash on hand to end the first quarter, according to MEC records.

Greene County Presiding Commissioner Bob Cirtin said Hough’s time would be spent better at the state Capitol.

“Lincoln has been a tremendous asset to the Greene County Commission, but frankly, after seeing what happened in Jefferson City this year, Lincoln could do more for Greene and Christian counties as our senator,” Cirtin said in the release. “I would like to see him help the governor implement his agenda that was strongly supported in this area last November.”
