Hotel room sales up through May

Springfield hotel room sales totaled $8 million in May, an increase of 2.1 percent from $7.8 million in the same month of 2012.

Calendar year-to-date sales through May rose 7 percent to $33.4 million from $31.2 million in the corresponding time frame of 2012, according to the latest available data recorded by the Springfield Convention & Visitors Bureau.

Of the 186,434 Springfield rooms available in May, 59.5 percent were occupied. Revenue per available room registered at $42.70 in May, up from $41.70 a year ago.

Year-to-date occupancy through May increased to 52 percent from 49.2 percent at the same time a year ago, according to the data.
