Drummond Lake at Close Park
Located on the east side of the 2400 block of South Scenic, just south of Nathanael Greene Park, this Springfield-Greene County Parks Department project was completed in April.
Paul D. Black was the project engineer, and Kennedy Contractors was the contractor on the $276,700 project, which was financed by a Department of Natural Resources Landmark Parks Grant.
This project encompassed improvement of the existing lake on the site to include construction of a new spillway, improvement of earth berms, lake dredging, a pedestrian bridge and trails and an observation deck.
As a result of this project a little known lake in south Springfield has been turned into a visible focal point for family recreation. The Ozark Greenways trail along South Creek passes on the north side, which allows users of the greenways trail to stop and rest at the new observation deck on the north side of the lake just a few feet from the trail.
Also provided is a side trail that branches from the greenways trail to provide an interesting crossing over the new lake spillway and access to the south side of the lake.
