Thousands of Hong Kong pro-democracy protesters crowded the airport's main terminal.
Protestors are seeking the removal of Carrie Lam as the Chinese territory's leader, as well as democratic elections for her successor.
In Beijing, the Cabinet's Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office said protests are "beginning to show the sprouts of terrorism."
