Hong Kong exchange drops bid for London Stock Exchange

Hong Kong's stock exchange dropped its $40 billion bid for the London Stock Exchange.

LSE officials said the bid was "substantially short" of a fair offer.

Under U.K. rules, the Hong Kong exchange may not make another proposal for the London Stock Exchange for six months.
