Springfield, MO
Her wish came true on Sept. 29.
Harryman, a Joplin resident since 1991, has watched as her parents, Patrick and Gayla Moore, opened several stores since her teenage years.
”She was about 15 when the first store opened,” said Gayla Moore. “She’s grown up around it.”
Harryman married and had children and elected to stay at home. Now that her children are older, she says its time to venture out and do what she has always wanted to do. In fact, she always had a location in mind.
“I’ve always liked this building,” Harryman said of the 1419 S. Main Street location. “When my parents approached me about opening a store, this was the first building I thought of.”
Soon after, she drove by, and noticed a for lease sign in the window.
Fast forward one month – Harryman, along with her parents, are working to get Fabulous Finds in order before the grand opening.
“We’ve already had a lot of response,” Harryman said two days prior to the opening. “People have already been coming in to see what we are. The sign on the side of the building is just the perfect billboard for the store.”
Fabulous Finds carries a variety of home decor, from tables and lamps to home furnishings and gifts. Harryman said she chose merchandise that was not currently available in the Joplin area. Harryman said her parents, who had previous relationships with vendors, was the key to finding the right merchandise for the store.
The Moore’s have owned several area stores, including The Dollar Tree and Mr. Bulky’s, which closed last year.
Patrick Moore said he likes the change of pace from the mall venue, particularly the freedom of space. In the mall, for instance, tenants must adhere to mall guidelines, and be weary of competing against other stores. A freestanding location, however, carries no such restrictions.
Harryman said she will be working the store full time for now. Her parents, who reside in Springfield, will be in from time to time.
Fabulous Finds is open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Tuesday through Saturday.
