Home prices rise 4.3% in Springfield

Posted online
Springfield home prices, including distressed sales, rose 4.3 percent in May, according to the latest data released today by Santa Ana, Calif.-based real estate data tracking firm CoreLogic (NYSE: CLGX).

Without distressed sales - defined as including short sales and real estate owned transactions - Springfield home prices rose 7.3 percent year-to-year, according to a news release.

Nationwide, home prices increased 12.2 percent year to year, including distressed sales. The change represents the largest year-to-year rise since February 2006 and the 15th consecutive monthly increase.

Excluding distressed sales, U.S. home prices increased by 11.6 percent in May, the release said.

"Across the country, pent up demand and continued low interest rates are fueling strong demand for a limited inventory of properties," CoreLogic President and CEO Anand Nallathambi said in the release. "We expect that trend to continue to drive up prices throughout the balance of the summer months."
