Home improvement wholesaler building Springfield presence

The operators of Carpet One Floor & Home in Springfield are bringing another franchise concept to town.

Husband-and-wife franchisees Pat and Chris Foglesong, of Kirksville, are targeting a November opening for home improvement supply wholesaler ProSource Springfield, said Linda Merkling, the local manager. Merkling most recently worked as an account executive at Springfield Business Journal.

ProSource Springfield, which offers flooring and kitchen and bath supplies, is taking on around 9,800 square feet at the 2745 S. Kansas Expressway building previously occupied by Jump Mania LLC. The Fogelsongs declined to disclose startup costs and lease terms with building owner Kansas Plaza 1 LLC. Merkling said infill work for a showroom and warehouse is being constructed.

ProSource partners with trade professionals, such as contractors, remodelers and interior designers, who are working on home improvement projects for customers. Carpet One is retail-focused, Merkling said.

"They have been involved in the flooring industry for years," she said of the Foglesongs, noting they saw the wholesale business as a "niche that's needed here."

Individual customers who visit the store would be referred to ProSource Springfield’s trade industry partners.

“Then they get the wholesale pricing,” Merkling said.

Both ProSource and Carpet One are brands of CCA Global Partners Inc., a fact that made the transition to a new franchise business an easy transition for the Foglesongs, said Merkling.

Merkling said ProSource Springfield initially would employ five people.

Earlier in her career, Merkling managed the Heilig-Meyers furniture store in Springfield for 10 years. The company's former regional director now works at ProSource and recommended her to the Foglesongs. She worked at SBJ for nearly three years before leaving the company last month.

"I wasn't looking," she said of the opportunity. "It was a really hard decision to leave SBJ."
