Two Arkansas-based banks completed a purchase agreement this week that forms the second largest bank holding company with headquarters in Arkansas, trailing only Fayetteville-based Arvest Bank.

Arkansas Business reports Conway, Ark.-based Home BancShares Inc. closed Wednesday on its $320.1 million purchase of Jonesboro-based Liberty Bancshares Inc., the parent company of Liberty Bank of Arkansas. The bank is not affiliated with Liberty Bancshares Inc. in Springfield.

The deal gives Home BancShares, the parent company of Centennial Bank, about $7 billion in total assets, $5.4 billion in deposits, $4.4 billion in loans, 153 branches and 1,500 employees across Arkansas, Florida and Alabama. State leader Arvest Bank has total assets of $14.2 billion, the report said.
