Holloway America earns SHARP certification

Posted online
The Missouri Department of Labor yesterday presented Springfield-based Holloway America with its Safety and Health Achievement Recognition Program certification.

Officials from the department and Occupational Safety and Health Administration yesterday visited the stainless steel manufacturer’s headquarters, 720 N. Cedarbrook Ave., to honor the company, according to a news release.

“SHARP is a program for Missouri employers dedicated to promoting a culture of safety throughout the workplace,” said Ryan McKenna, director of the Department of Labor, in the release. “The Missouri Department of Labor congratulates Holloway America for meeting the requirements to join an elite group of Missouri businesses.”

SHARP members - of which there are nearly 40 - earn lower workers’ compensation insurance premiums and temporary exemption from OSHA inspections. The award recognizes companies with 250 onsite employees or less that operate effective safety and health management programs, according to Labor.Mo.gov.

The Department of Labor’s On-Site Safety and Health Consultation Program helps companies achieve the status.

“Attaining SHARP was a company goal,” said Kevin Mau, Holloway America safety director, in the release. “The on-site consultation program helped us put additional safety procedures in place, improving our safety and health program and overall workplace culture for our skilled workers.

“It’s good business to be safe, because it ultimately makes our company more efficient.”
