Posted online
Downtown Springfield’s Festival of Lights celebration continues this weekend with holiday performances – and the last chance to take a horse-drawn carriage ride.

The 2005 Holiday Ice Show, The Christmas Angel, will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at Jordan Valley Ice Park and will feature members of the Jordan Valley Figure Skating Club. Admission is $5.

The ice par also will offer free public skating sessions 6:30-7:30 tonight and 5:30-6:30 p.m. Saturday. Skate rental is $2.50.

The Creamery Arts Center will host a hands-on ornament workshop 1-4 p.m. Saturday. The workshops are free, and participants can create and decorate a variety of ornaments, from traditional bulbs to origami stars. Hot chocolate and coffee will be available.

This is the final weekend for downtown horse-drawn carriage rides, offered 6:30-9 tonight and Saturday. Rides begin at the Gillioz Theatre on Park Central East.

A production of The Nutcracker will be on stage tonight through Sunday at the Landers Theatre, sponsored by the Springfield Ballet.

The Landers Theatre also will host The Steadfast Tin Soldier, sponsored by the ballet, at 11 a.m. Saturday.

The Messiah Project will present Amahl and the Night Visitors and A Prelude of Holiday Music at 7:30 tonight at Juanita K. Hammons Hall for the Performing Arts. Also on stage, Man of La Mancha concludes this weekend at the Vandivort Center with performances tonight and Saturday.

Festival of Lights is presented by the Jordan Valley Marketing Council.
