Holiday lights, gadgets give your Wi-Fi the blues

A report published by Britain’s communications regulator Ofcom shows roughly 20 percent of poor Wi-Fi performance is cause by lights and electronics in the home.

While network congestion and infrastructure can take most of the blame for sluggish broadband, devices such as home phones and baby monitors can be a drag when it comes to Wi-Fi performance because they compete for frequencies.

However, there are things consumers can do to improve their WiFi’s performance, including moving the router away from electronic devices.
