Hoch, Pernice best previous winners at Legends of Golf

Posted online

The duo of Scott Hoch and Tom Pernice Jr. this weekend won the signature 50-and-older circuit at the sixth annual Bass Pro Shops Legends of Golf at Big Cedar Lodge.

Each took home $171,000 for the win, with the total purse at $1.8 million. Kirk Triplett and Paul Broadhurst, who won the 2018 tournament at Big Cedar, tied for second and brought home $91,125 apiece. They tied with Vijay Singh and Carlos Franco, who won the 2017 Legends of Golf and last year came in third, according to the standings posted to TheGolfNewsNet.com.

Hoch, 63, and Pernice, 59, won with a combined score of 23-under par during play at Big Cedar’s Top of the Rock and Ozarks National courses. For the latter course, the tournament marked the first professional round of golf played after it was designed by golf architects Bill Coore and Ben Crenshaw.

Celebrity appearances were made by musicians Justin Timberlake and Kid Rock, actor Mark Wahlberg and comedian Larry the Cable Guy, among others.

Bass Pro spokesman Jack Wlezien said attendance numbers haven’t been finalized, but this year’s tournament “was the strongest in the six-year history of the event.”

“Thousands upon thousands turned out to watch live and millions more tuned in to Golf Channel and through social media,” he added.
