Historic Flooding

Posted online
Southwest Missouri’s wild weather continues. A two-day storm dumped massive amounts of rain in the area March 17–19. Numerous businesses were flooded, including this Carson’s Nurseries location south of Springfield.

Owner J.J. Cybulski said the land was under at least 10 feet of water as of March 19. “We were able to move most of our plant material,” he said. “What we lost was our boilers in our greenhouses, the back of some sheds, pumps for pumping our irrigation systems – anything that was difficult to unbolt.”

The National Weather Service estimates that areas east of Springfield received more than 8 inches of rain in less than 48 hours, following a February classified as the wettest on record in the Ozarks.[[In-content Ad]]
