At a gathering of CEOs in Midtown Manhattan this month organized by the Yale School of Management, company leaders indicated hiring is largely off the table in 2026.
Roughly 66% of leaders surveyed said they plan to fire workers or maintain the size of their workforce in 2026.
A third of those surveyed said they plan to make hires next year.
Chris Layden, CEO of staffing company Kelly Services, said there's going to be "a lot of wait and see" when it comes to hiring in 2026.
