Hilton apologizes for mistreatment of black guest

Posted online

Worldwide Holdings Inc. issued an apology to a black guest a week after he was asked to leave a hotel property in Portland, Oregon.

Jermaine Massey, 34, accused the hotel of racial profiling after he took a call from his mother. A security guard approached him and asked for his room number, and while he confirmed he was a guest, police arrived and escorted him from the property.

"DoubleTree by Hilton has zero tolerance for racism. The DoubleTree by Hilton Portland, independently owned and operated, terminated 2 employees involved in the mistreatment of Mr. Massey and is working with Diversity & Inclusion experts. Hilton deeply apologizes to Mr. Massey," the apology tweet reads.

DoubleTree by Hilton Portland fired a security guard and manager involved in the incident.
