Herschend Family Entertainment CEO takes top SeaWorld post

SeaWorld Entertainment announced Thursday it hired Joel Manby as its new CEO. He's set to start April 7, according to Fortune.

Manby has served as president and CEO of Herschend Family Entertainment Corp. - the Atlanta, Ga.-based owner of Silver Dollar City with Branson roots.

At SeaWorld, Manby succeeds Jim Atchison, who stepped down in January.

Public-relations crises have hounded the company since the orca Tilikum killed trainer Dawn Brancheau in Orlando in 2010 and escalated after the 2013 documentary "Blackfish" criticized SeaWorld for its treatment of captive killer whales.
