Herman Miller products earn Greenguard certification

Posted online

The Greenguard Environmental Institute has awarded Greenguard Indoor Air Quality Certification to Herman Miller Inc.'s major lines of systems furniture, filing and storage, excluding optional wood veneers. The certification includes the Herman Miller Meridian branded products.

According to a Nov. 11 news release from Greenguard Environmental Institute, this marks the completion of the second stage of Herman Miller's Greenguard Certification process, after achieving certification for its complete office seating product lines in July.

Grooms Office Systems is a Springfield dealer of Herman Miller products.

The systems furniture and filing and storage were tested according to the Greenguard standards for low-emitting products. The products were proven to have minimal impact on the indoor environment, and will be monitored on a quarterly basis to ensure ongoing indoor air quality performance.

"Herman Miller is proud to be a part of the Greenguard Program," said Herman Miller's Environmental Program Manager, Larry Dykhuis, in the release. "Indoor air quality is a focal point of our environmental vision to create workplaces that enhance the quality of human life, and the Greenguard Indoor Air Quality Certified(r) label helps us communicate this goal to our customers."

The Greenguard Environmental Institute is an independent, nonprofit organization that oversees the Greenguard Certification Program, including the establishment of acceptable standards for indoor products and testing protocols. The institute's goal is to improve public health and quality of life by helping manufacturers build better and safer products.

Greenguard Indoor Air Quality Certified furniture and furnishings enable architects and designers to achieve points for the U.S. Green Building Council's Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design for Commercial Interiors Program. Furthermore, Greenguard Certified Products help significantly to meet indoor air quality baseline testing requirements.

Common interior furnishings and building materials release into the indoor environment odorous or potentially irritating contaminants, which may negatively affect people's health. Products certified by the GEI help reduce indoor air pollution. The Greenguard Product Guide is available online at www.greenguard.org.
