Nicholas Heatherly is the new director of Building Development Services for the city of Springfield.
City Manager Tom Finnie announced the appointment April 26, according to a release from the city.
Heatherly has been with the city since 1986, when he became technical assistant to the director of Public Works. Since 1997, he has been assistant director of Public Works most recently with primary responsibility for general services and street maintenance which has 165 employees and a budget of $13 million, the release states.
Heatherly has been involved in projects such as the renovation of the Busch Municipal Building and the public infrastructure development of the Partnership Industrial Center. He is an engineer licensed with the state of Missouri, and he holds a bachelor of science degree in civil engineering from the University of Missouri-Rolla.
"We are fortunate that we had an extremely well-qualified internal candidate. It will provide good continuity of service to the community," Finnie said in the release.
The position's salary is $75,545. Heatherly's appointment becomes effective May 1.
The position has been open since last year, when Pam Buck resigned.
