The Go Red for Women luncheon, presented by the American Heart Association Sept. 13 at the Oasis Convention Center in Springfield, drew more than 570 red-clad women and grossed more than $80,000 for heart disease research and education. The event included a silent “purse-onalities” auction and a presentation by Dr. Mira Choe of Internal Medicine for Women at CoxHealth. Choe talked about health and lifestyle guidelines regarding women and heart disease.

Above, KY3’s Lisa Rose, right, was mistress of ceremonies for the program, which included stories by women who have survived heart disease. Participants, from left, were Rachel Malen, Lori Reeves, Robbin Graham, Linda Bailey and Mary Boyer.
At left, Boyer shares her story. Although she recognized the symptoms of her heart attack, Boyer said she didn’t think a heart attack would happen to her, so she didn’t seek medical help until her husband insisted.
