Hearing, school board look at proposed tax levy

Posted online
A proposed tax levy for the Springfield School District will be the topic of a public hearing today and a subsequent school board meeting.

The hearing will be at 5:30 p.m. at the Kraft Administrative Services Center, 940 N. Jefferson Ave. The school board is scheduled to meet and discuss the levy after the hearing.

Up for consideration is a property tax rate increase of 10 cents per $100,000 of assessed value on a home in 2009, according to school district Chief Financial Officer Steve Chodes. The increase is expected to generate an additional $2.3 million in revenue, which is already built into the district’s 2008-09 budget.

The proposed figures were based on the 2 percent increase in assessed valuation in tax year 2008 compared to 2007, Chodes said.
