LOVE IS IN THE AIR. The word on the street this week is cheerful, optimistic and upbeat. (Not really, but we're practicing selective hearing.) So many folks in Springfield have been honored, awarded and highly regarded of late that we'll turn over the column this week to singing their praises.
STACKED UP. The Missouri Community College Association opened its annual convention in Springfield Nov. 3 by presenting Jack Stack with its Distinguished Business Award. Stack, chief executive officer of Springfield ReManufacturing Corp., was nominated for the award by Ozarks Technical Community College. In its nomination, officials from OTC said: "SRC's No. 1 higher law of business is 'You get what you give.' Jack Stack continues to give and in turn encourages others to give their best all get the best from Jack Stack." Stack served as co-chair for OTC's campaign committee for the successful 1998 ballot issue for college funding. He is a member of the OTC Foundation Board. Also recognized by the Missouri Community College Association were Gov. Mel Carnahan, state Sen. Doyle Childers and state Rep. Scott B. Lankin, who were all presented with Distinguished Legislator Awards. About 650 members of the association attended the convention in Springfield, where Stack also delivered the event's keynote address.
