|bold_on|MISSOURIANS TAKE CARE OF THEIR OWN. U.S. Sens. John Ashcroft and Kit Bond, both of Missouri, introduced legislation April 13 to honor Harry S. Truman, the only U.S. president to hail from the Show-Me State. The Republican senators want to honor the Democrat former president by renaming the Department of State Building for him. Truman held Ashcroft's seat in the Senate from 1935 until 1945, when Truman became vice president. Bond uses the offices, in the Russell Building, that Truman used when he was a senator. The bill is cosponsored by Democratic Sen. Daniel Patrick Moynihan of New York and Republican Sens. John Warner of Virginia and Mike DeWine of Ohio. Ashcroft said of the Missouri president, "The life, character and freedom-loving values of this great Missourian are honored by countless millions."|ret||ret||tab|

|bold_on|I LOVE ROCK AND ROLL. Joan Jett, once a cutting-edge punker, then a mainstream rocker, is now a performer at our own Ozark Empire Fair. Jett and her band, the Blackhearts, will perform Aug. 2, also known as Free Ride Day, at the fair. Confirmation of Jett's appearance at the fair completes the line-up of entertainers. Others to perform include Mark Wills (July 28), Ricochet (July 29), America (July 31) and Lee Ann Womack (Aug. 3). Jett's No. 1 hit, "I Love Rock and Roll" was a hit at about the same time as the now forgotten classic "Pac-Man Fever." If you can tear yourself away from your Atari, you can cruise your AMC Pacer on over to see Jett, who has a new album, "Pure and Simple." Sadly, there's been no follow-up to "Pac-Man Fever."|ret||ret||tab|
