|bold_on|EXPRESS SUCCESS. Happy anniversary to Express Personnel Services. The Springfield franchise of Express celebrates 10 years in business May 15 with a special luncheon. A special speaker, Robert A. Funk, will be the guest at the luncheon. Funk is the founder and chairman of the board of Express Services Inc. Nikki and Robert Sells opened the office, and were its only employees, in 1990. Their office has provided employment for more than 15,000 people in the region since its inception. The Sells own the Springfield location, and their staff has grown from two to 11 in 10 years. The Springfield office also oversees a total of 14 locations in Missouri, Kansas and Arkansas. Our own Joe McAdoo has been honored with a scholarship the Dr. Joe McAdoo Public Relations of the Ozarks Scholarship which will be awarded to one student for the 2000-2001 academic year. The scholarship is $500 and includes a membership in Public Relations of the Ozarks, an organization that provides a forum for sharing ideas among public relations professionals in Springfield. Applicants must be enrolled full time, be starting their junior or senior year and majoring in communications, public relations or a related area. Graduate students in these fields are also eligible. Applications must be received by June 1. A longtime SBJ columnist, McAdoo is a past president of Public Relations of the Ozarks and former chair of the Drury University communication department. |bold_on|A MILLION FOR JORDAN VALLEY PARK. Water, water everywhere ... City Utilities has made its commitment to Jordan Valley Park official with a budget allocation of $1 million for a water feature in said park. The design and theme of the water feature are to be jointly agreed to by City Council and the Board of Public Utilities. At the same meeting, the Board of Public Utilities announced that its water reservoirs remain below normal. Fellows Lake and McDaniel Lake are both down, the result of long-term drought in the area. KGBX/Today's Woman Magazine, Alliance for Professional Organizations and the Girl Scouts Dogwood Trails Council have announced the finalists for the Woman of Distinction Award. One of seven women will be selected to win the award at a June 8 dinner. The finalists, in each of their respective categories, are as follows: Government, Missouri Sen. Roseann Bentley; Arts, Martha Gaska; Human Services, Carolyn Moncrief; Education, Gloria Morris; Business, Danette Proctor; Aspiring Leader, Samantha Clark; and Girl Scouting, Cindy Waites. |bold_on|SLICE OF NICE. Ozarks Rally for a Cure is sponsoring a golf tournament to benefit breast cancer research agencies in the area. The tournament is a two-woman golf scramble to be held June 3 at Hidden Valley Golf Links in Clever. Mary Beth O'Reilly is the tournament's chairperson. A breast cancer survivor herself, O'Reilly has formed the Breast Cancer Foundation of the Ozarks, one of the event's beneficiaries. The Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation will also receive proceeds from the event. There is an entry fee of $120 per team.
