Springfield health care officials are among those to speak out against packed Christmas church services held at James River Church's campuses over the weekend.
Photos shared to social media showed crowds of people, many of whom were not wearing masks for the Christmas services.
Springfield-Greene County Health Department Director Clay Goddard told the Springfield News-Leader he "was shocked and deeply saddened" over the photos and that "hosting a giant event without distancing or masking is irresponsible and insulting to the people on the front lines of this crisis."
CoxHealth President and CEO yesterday said "this disease doesn't care about our religion" and spreads among those who congregate in large numbers.
James River leadership officials were not available for comment when the News-Leader reached out yesterday, according to the report.

News-Leader today said 17 deaths from Long-Term care facilities reported Monday. Where is the outrage against that? At least with churches open, people have a chance to have their souls saved and know they will be in heaven, even if they die of Covid.
And COVID doesn't care about the congregations of Protestors in Seattle, New York, Portland, Milwaukee, Minneapolis either. Covid can spread just as easily in Protests as in a Church. And obviously the protestors don't care.
