St. Louis-based Missouri Foundation for Health this week awarded grants totaling $48,056 to four nonprofits in Springfield and the outlying areas.
The grants are part of a $1 million round of funding approved by the health foundation's board of directors. During its latest round of funding, the Missouri Foundation for Health introduced its first "mini-grants," which are designed to provide short-term support for targeted health improvement initiatives, according to a news release.
Three mini-grants were given to:
- Dallas County Health Department of Buffalo, $10,000 to help fund preventative oral health education for school-age children;
- Fordland Clinic, $10,000 to help the Fordland organization create a digital imaging and dental health record system;
- Ozarks Area Community Action Corp., $9,860 to allow the Springfield nonprofit to provide human papillomavirus testing for women 30 and older.
The fourth grant was made via the health foundation's Strategic Organizational Development funding program. With the $18,196 in funding, the Prengancy Care Center in Springfield will redesign its programs in an effort to improve efficiency, according to the release.
Since its 2000 founding, independent philanthropic organization Missouri Foundation for Health has awarded more than $455 million in grants and awards to organizations in 84 Missouri counties and the city of St. Louis, the release said.
